There are an estimated 28 million edentulous (without teeth) Americans and that number is growing every day. Most of you suffer, at least periodically, from a whole range of maladies related to poor or ill-fitting dentures. These include sore spots, loss of confidence to smile the way you’d like, loss of self esteem, lack of ability to taste, chew, and eat the foods you love.
We all learned this in grade school, but the first step in the proper digestion of food starts with being able to properly chew our food. Poor ability to chew food leads to inadequate digestion, which results in poor nutrition and an inferior state of general health.
To be sure, Mini Dental Implants (MDI’s) are the superior solution to loose dentures. Even MDI’s however, if used in conjunction with a poorly fitting or poorly designed denture can lose much of their effectiveness. Therefore, the starting point for changing the lives of our toothless patrons should be with the fabrication of properly engineered, properly designed, and properly fitting dentures.
FAQ - The following is a compilation of frequently asked questions. Some of my responses may seem a bit technical, but we’ll be able to explain more when we get the chance to see you. Give us a call. Thanks! –Mike
Q: Aren’t all dentures really the same? Should I just try to find the cheapest set I can?
A: There is an enormous difference in the construction, design, and quality of dentures. These differences have a direct correlation to how your new teeth will look, fit, and function.
For example: Type of teeth. The material and process used in denture tooth construction makes a huge difference on how life-like and natural your smile will look. Cheap teeth look cheap. No one wants to smile and look like they’re wearing dentures. We offer Geneva 2000™ Porcelain Teeth. These have 12 different layers of porcelain baked on to each tooth and are individually customized and characterized. Your smile will be natural and beautiful.
We use injection molding in our finishing process and shaded acrylic which is compatible with the superior Geneva 2000 Denture System. This means the plastic part that holds your teeth will not look too pink and artificial.
The most important element to insure that your denture chews well, fits well, and feels great is the occlusion (For example: how the bite on the back teeth is made to fit together). This is critical! We use an auto centric linear occlusion. This allows for only vertical forces to be applied when chewing. Vertical force minimizes the amount of bone you lose overtime, it will not allow the dentures to shift or tip, and virtually eliminates sore spots from developing.
Also, vertical force allows for a much-improved ability to chew your food. Natural teeth deliver a biting force of 450 lbs/sq. inch. A conventional denture system will allow us to only bite with a maximum force equaling 35 lbs/sq. inch. Now do you wonder why you’re having trouble chewing your food? The Geneva 2000 System with vertical force delivers a biting force of 145 lbs/sq. inch. This means with the Geneva 2000 Denture System you can bite into your food with a force four times greater than that of a conventional denture. The ability to better chew your food is obvious.
Following the dictates of the Geneva 2000 Denture System will provide for you a denture that is far superior to anything you have experienced before.
Q: What if I need a new set of dentures because the plates are old and the teeth are worn but I basically like the way they look?
A: We can use a duplicating system called Celera™. The Celera technique allows us to create a set of dentures for you, which look the way your present dentures did when they were new.
Q: I like my dentures but they just seem a little loose. What can be done?
A: The MDI’s will give you by far the most secure dentures possible. If this option does not work in to your life plans at this time however, we have two great options for you. Hard and soft relines – both of these can be done in a single office visit, eliminating the need for a second delivery visit. Our patients really love the new PermaSoft silicone based reline process. This provides a permanent cushion around areas that may become tender from time to time.
